- Mashed cauliflower is a great addition to the table that can be seasoned in various ways. Much like you would prepare traditional mashed potatoes, add in ghee (if you choose to use it as a Paleo friendly butter), canned, full fat coconut milk, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Another delicious side dish to prepare for added starches is baked or roasted sweet potatoes. They’re delicious by themselves or you can prepare a candied sweet potato casserole using maple syrup or honey, pecans, and almond flour to thicken the sweet potatoes before baking the casserole.
- For a sweet treat, cut whole apples into slices and simmer them on the stovetop with cinnamon and maple syrup. You will only need about a tablespoon of syrup per apple. You may also want to try baking an apple pie with a Paleo friendly crust option. This can be a little more challenging but it will be worth it in the end. Just be sure to switch out any ingredients that don’t adhere to the Paleo guidelines for other options.
Many times, replacing non-compliant ingredients with Paleo friendly ones is a great way to use traditional recipes and those that have been passed down from generation to generation in your family. Think outside the box when it comes to preparing healthy items you can enjoy this season.
