Over the next two months, thousands of people will be traveling to be with friends and family over the holidays for annual celebrations. After all, being with the ones we love and celebrating holiday cheer is what these seasons are all about. However, the pains of traveling and navigating busy airports, or roadways can bring on a lot of stress. Also, indulging in those yummy desserts and rich holiday meals does not help when you’re trying to watch the calories.
So when you’re visiting family and friends this year and you start to feel a little overwhelmed, why not get away from all the hustle and bustle and drop-in to a local CrossFit affiliate? Sneaking away for some time of your own to get in a quick WOD will recharge your holiday batteries, and allow you to keep your health goals moving forward.
Finding a CrossFit box close to you should not be that hard either as there are more than 5,000 affiliates throughout the world. And here’s the really cool part, each box is unique and you’ll be able to find different techniques, equipment, and a variety of CrossFit cultures to soak in.
You’ve probably already learned that the CrossFit community is a supportive and welcoming one, but there are still some things you should know when visiting new turf. Below we put together a great list of tips that should help you feel more comfortable. Searching for an affordable personal trainer in Raleigh NC? Call Invoke for more information.
Tips for Visiting a New Box
Do Some Research – Before you just go and show up, do a little research first. You should be able to find a drop-in policy on their website, contact information, and a schedule. Then you should shoot the owners a quick email to give them a head’s up that you want to visit. Be sure to ask about their fees and when the best time to come by would be. The last thing you’ll want to do is interrupt a coach during their busiest class time and a little homework should prevent that.
Arrive Early – Once you figure out the best time to drop-in, show up at least 15 – 20 minutes early. This way you have plenty of time fill out any paperwork, meet the coaches, and get a feel for the box. Be friendly and take the initiative to introduce yourself.
Don’t Brag or Be a Know-It-All – Nobody likes a know-it-all, or someone who brags all the time. Don’t show up at a new place flaunting your deadlift max, or try to teach a class. Just relax, be cool and respectful, and stay humble. Do not try to show anyone up, especially the coaches.
Be Open Minded to Learning New Things – Each box you visit will be different, and each coach you train with will also have different philosophies. Just because a new trainer demonstrates how to do a movement differently than you would, it does not mean it’s wrong so be open to suggestions and new experiences.
