Runners often struggle with other kinds of workouts to help with their strength training. Believe it or not, CrossFit is a great workout to try! If you’re unfamiliar with WODs it might be a good idea to work with a personal trainer for a while to help you get used to it. There are also many different WODs you can try on your own. Searching for the best fitness club in Raleigh NC? If so, call or drop in at CrossFit Invoke!
According to shape.com, “running is a linear, repetitive movement that involves mostly your legs, it can cause an imbalance in the rest of the body, which can lead to injury now or down the road. Solely running also leads to workout plateaus, so when the muscles become used to the demands placed on it, a runner needs to run farther or faster in order to maintain her level of fitness. CrossFit exercises involve your whole body rather than isolated muscle groups, which strengthens from head to toes and makes you a better runner.”
To help you get ready for a 5K or 10K, try this CrossFit WOD:
- 20 box jumps
- 10 chin-ups
- 10 dumbbell thrusters
- 1 minute of kettlebell swings.
- Rest 1 to 2 minutes
- Repeat 3-5 times
To get ready for a full marathon, this WOD will be great:
- 20 pull-ups
- 30 push-ups
- 40 sit-ups
- 50 air squats
- Rest 3 three minutes
- Repeat at least 5 times
