More Workout Gear Cleaning Tips

Wash and Soak Inside Out

Before you wash or pre-soak your gym clothes, flip them inside out. The first point of contact from your sweat is on the inside of your clothes. Turning your items inside out will allow the cleaning agents to more efficiently attack the smelly parts first.

The Vinegar Soak

After a hard CrossFit workout, you probably like to have a nice soak. Guess what? Your workout clothes needs a good soaking too. Soaking your gym clothes in vinegar will help release those smelly odors that can become trapped in the fabric. All you have to do is soak your clothes in water and one half-cup of white vinegar for about 20 minutes prior to using the washing machine.

If your clothes are still smelly after the pre-soak, then just add another half of cup vinegar to your wash. If vinegar sketches you out, try baking soda as an alternative.

Say No To Fabric Softener

Don’t use fabric softener. This can leave a film on your clothes that will act as a cleaning deterrent. It can essentially trap the bad smells into your clothes.

The Smell Test

After washing, give your gym clothes the smell test before putting them into the dryer. If they still smell funky, don’t use the dryer to cook those smells in. Rewash them instead.

Air Dry

Since machine drying can bake in the smells, do yourself favor and invest in an air drying rack. If you have an outdoors clothesline, use that as well. The fresh air will help make your clothes smell clean and also makes your clothes last longer.

Remember, nobody wants to attend CrossFit class with smelly folks. Using these tips to keep your gear cleaned and maintained will go along way in helping you.
