- Drink lots of fluids, especially water. It’s possible to become dehydrated, even in the winter.
- Take it easy this winter. You might love to run, but it is possible to get burned out. It’s a good idea to train lightly in the winter so that you will feel more refreshed throughout the rest of the year. Once the temperature starts warming back up you can get back into your hardcore routine.
- Make sure you’re paying attention when running in the winter. As we mentioned, icy conditions can cause injuries. If you get too into your run and distracted because you’re listening to music, you might not see ice that could be avoided. Pay close attention the entire time you run so that your surroundings won’t get the best of you.
- Be sure you have the right apparel to wear when running in the winter. If you don’t have cold weather athletic apparel, consider getting some. Be sure to have a fleece jacket that is insulated and helps with moisture. Also, consider wearing a headband or hat, running tights, gloves, and a long sleeved shirt.
