2016 CrossFit Game Winners
Women’s Champ
No surprise here, Katrin Davidsdottir won her second-straight Reebok CrossFit Games. This makes her the back-to-back champion for 2015 and 2016. This 23-year-old Icelandic CrossFit athlete has participated in four CrossFit Games. She’s the first female repeat champion since Annie Thorisdottir did it at the 2011 and 2012 Games.
In regards to winning two years in a row, Davidsdottir said “It feels amazing,” and that “It’s been a great journey.”
Men’s Champ
Mat Fraser, a Nike sponsored CrossFit athlete, finally accomplished his goal. After finishing in second place at the 2014 and 2015 Games, he became the men’s champion in 2016. Fraser finished with a 197-point lead over second-place finisher Ben Smith. This gap between number one and two was the largest in the history of the CrossFit Games.
When asked about winning the Games, Fraser said he was going to “Keep winnin’ it,” and that “As long as it stays fun and I’m healthy, I’ll keep goin’.” So look out for Mat at next year’s games and we’ll see if he can repeat.
Affiliate Cup Champions
This year’s Affiliate Cup Champions was the team of CrossFit Mayhem. CrossFit Mayhem is captained by 4-time Games Individual winner Rich Froning. The team also repeated as champions.
