The History of the CrossFit Games
The Games started way back in 2007. There was a small group of 70 or so athletes who met at the Ranch in Aromas, California, to see who would be the fittest woman and man. Two of the top male competitors even flew in from Canada to compete.
Greg Glassman, who is the founder of CrossFit, held a belief that world-class athletes should be able to handle any and all fitness related tasks, at any given time, and in any order. Therefore, the first events of the 2007 Games were randomly chosen using labeled colored balls that were pulled from a hopper.
From here, a workout was created and the athletes started competing. Below we will list out the entire details of the events that took place at the 2007 CrossFit games.
The inaugural games held in California ushered in a new era for CrossFit as well as for fitness competitions. This competition awarded no points for style or appearance, the only way to win was to complete each task faster than other athletes involved.
For the women, the winner was Jolie Gentry from California. Canada’s own James FitzGerald won the men’s side. The 2007 Affiliate Cup was won by CrossFit Santa Cruz. They had the most team members place highly in the individual events.
