Burning Even More Calories at the Beach

Building a Sandcastle – Do you have kids? Do you want to just feel like a kid again? Then the next time you go the beach you should build a sandcastle. If you move away from the water, and carry your wet sand to your build site, all those trips back and forth can burn up to 100 calories an hour. You’ll need a few adult-sized buckets to really get a workout in, but at the very least this is still a light exercise that will keep you active.

Beach Soccer – You don’t have to have a full team to play this game. All you need are a few friends and a ball to kick around. Running around in the sand will provide plenty of resistance, and if you’re competitive you can expect to burn upwards of 500 calories per hour of game time. Beach soccer helps improve agility, endurance, and cardio levels. Plus you’ll be working out some of your core muscles as well as leg and glute muscles.

Beach Walking and Running – Just walking in the sand on the beach can even burn some much needed calories. In fact, the deeper the sand the better. This makes the exercise even more challenging and you’ll burn 30% more calories than walking or running on a flat surface – even at the same pace. If you’re up for it, up your challenge by jogging. You can expect to burn anywhere between 330-800 calories per hour by doing this.
